Modernizing with Confidence: How AACC is Navigating ERP Transition with SIG’s Expert Support

institutional profile

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), founded in 1961 and located in Arnold, MD, is the state’s largest single-campus public community college. Serving over 35,000 students with 46 associate degrees and 62 certificate programs, AACC is recognized for its academic excellence and inclusive student success initiatives

Challenge

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) faced mounting technical and operational challenges due to a highly customized, aging ERP environment built on Unidata. Core challenges included:

  • Inflexible infrastructure that made modern integrations difficult
  • Limited system support and staffing bandwidth
  • Disconnected data impacting decision-making and analytics
  • Concerns from staff around transitioning legacy customizations

Leadership recognized the need for a modern, scalable solution and began exploring SaaS options for Colleague—but needed an objective partner to guide the decision and implementation process.

Solutions

AACC engaged SIG to provide expert, vendor-agnostic analysis and project support, while also coordinating with Ellucian and other third-party contributors. Key actions included:

  • SaaS Readiness & Back-to-Basics Assessments with SIG, Ellucian, and other partners
  • Deep engagement in faculty contracts, financial aid, and cross-functional workflows
  • Specialized integration support for the Ethos platform and ADP migration
  • Supplemental resources to augment the Ellucian team
  • Hands-on project management led by SIG’s Shari Waters, fostering shared solutions across institutions

Results and Impact (In-Progress)

Laying the Groundwork for SaaS Transition with Embedded Partnership and Expert Guidance

  • Customizations being de-scoped and aligned with baseline functionality
  • Improved data accessibility and analytics capabilities
  • Strengthened staff confidence through responsive, embedded support
  • Greater institutional readiness for innovation and compliance

Future Outlook

AACC is on track for its January 2026 SaaS go-live. SIG continues to serve as a trusted advisor and partner, helping the college balance innovation with institutional identity.
Following the success of this phased approach, AACC plans to leverage SIG’s model and peer collaboration strategies for other modernization initiatives.

“SIG helps us modernize while honoring what makes AACC unique. Their experts have walked alongside our teams and built confidence in even our most nervous departments.”
